Put Your Best Foot Forward: The Importance Of Presentation

Whether you are selling a product, service or idea your presentation is every bit as important as the product, service, or idea itself.   You can make the best tasting and healthiest cereal on the planet, but if the packaging doesn’t catch the consumers eye no one is going to want to try your product.  You might as well wrap it in plain brown paper for all the good your work in making the product will do you.  The same holds true for those offering a service, presenting an idea or even those who are applying for a job or running for public office.

First impressions really do count in this fast paced world of ours and as the old saying goes “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.”   This really is true and that is why you need to give as much thought to the presentation or public persona as you do all that behind the scenes labor.

Take interviewing for a job as an example.  You may know everything there is to know about the job you are applying for, you may have gotten a good education, and had years of experience in the field.  In other words you may have all the ingredients that would make you the right choice for the job, but, if you show up looking like something the cat dragged in, or interview poorly, you’ll never get the chance to show them just how good you are at the job.   Whether it seems fair or not, you have to appeal to the audience you are trying to convince.

For every successful product on the market there are thousand others just as great that fail. Why? Because these products weren’t presented in a fashion that made people want to purchase them. Their presentation was simply lacking in what the intended audience for the product wanting to see, hear, or know.

The same principal holds true in everything in life. Those politicians that we all complain about get elected because they know how to present themselves in a way that makes people like and have confidence in them.

Remember the good old pet rock and how trendy and popular it was?  It was just a rock.  However, the person who made millions off those rocks presented them in such a fashion that consumers both young and old felt that they just had to have one of these rocks.  People laid down their hard earned money not because the product was good or even unique but, because of the presentation of the product.

So stop and consider just how important presentation is in everything.  While all the labor put in behind the scenes will pay off it will only pay off if the presentation of results of that labor really reaches the targeted audience and draws them in.

Tips on Hiring Marketing Firms

The first step to hiring a good marketing firm is to know the specific demands of your business. There will always be a shortage of the kind of people that you would want to hire for your business. Statistics show that it is more difficult to recruit qualified employees nowadays than it was a couple of years ago. This means that the pool of talented individuals that you can get to work on your product or service is turning out to be very small. The decision to hire a marketing firm is a big one as you will realize that it takes a lot of money to even begin looking for one.

It is of utmost importance that you know what you need. Many marketing firms offer a wide variety of services such as advertising, public relations, research and development and even events. If you own a start-up company or a medium-sized business, you would not need so many embellishments in your campaign. A good marketing firm will not shove all the services in your face and try to convince you that you need all of them. A good marketing firm will take a look at the project and conduct a cost-efficient yet highly results-driven campaign that does not necessarily have to make use of every single channel.

The very purpose of a marketing firm is to take your product out into the market and build brand awareness and eventually, brand recall. The tasks that a marketing firm does can also be done in-house but if you have few people and you cannot afford to spare the talent that you own into doing marketing work, then it may be wise to hire a marketing firm instead. In this day and age, people are not fighting for a marketing firm’s attention. It is the industry that needs business owners such as you.

One of the best tips in order to not be swayed by sales talk is that you always have to remember who the boss is. Lay down your terms and explain your goals concretely. If the marketing firm can’t satisfy that need or at least show evidence that they can, you are best to be looking elsewhere. Some marketing firms will also offer an assessment of your project and a brief proposal of what they plan to do. They are not stringy when it comes to this because knowing the strategy is eons away from actually doing it.

It is best to acquire this sort of information first before making the big decision. Know what you’re getting into first before bringing out your wallet. And besides a marketing firm’s job is to sell and convince, you have to show them that you can discern perfectly the way they do their jobs. If you are impressed with how they think and provide the transparent strategy to you, you have got yourself the marketing firm that you should be working with.
